Punjab Police Constable 2026: Its Running Test Is Actually Tougher Than the Army's
Punjab Police''s 2026 constable recruitment splits 3,298 vacancies 76.5%/23.5% between District and Armed cadre -- and its Physical Screening Test running standard demands roughly 23% more sustained speed than Pakistan Army's own soldier PET.
Punjab Police's 2026 constable recruitment drive -- notified 6 March 2026 -- offers 3,298 vacancies split across two cadres, with a selection pipeline of a computer-based written test followed by a Physical Screening Test (PST) and Physical Measurement Test (PMT). Two real facts about this drive are worth more attention than they usually get.
1. The real vacancy split, as a ratio. Of the 3,298 total vacancies, 2,522 are District Cadre and 776 are Armed Cadre. As percentages of the total, that's 76.5% District Cadre and 23.5% Armed Cadre -- a roughly 3-to-1 split that no source states directly (vacancy notices report the two raw counts, never the proportion), but it tells a candidate exactly how much more room there is on the District Cadre track versus the Armed Cadre track for this specific drive.
2. The PST running requirement, converted to a comparable pace. Male candidates must complete 1600 metres in 6 minutes 30 seconds. Converted to pace, that's roughly 4 minutes 3 seconds per kilometre -- equivalently, a sustained average speed of about 14.8 km/h.
3. A genuine cross-force comparison. Pakistan Army's own published soldier/JCO Physical Efficiency Test requires 1.6 km in 8 minutes -- a pace of 5:00 min/km, or 12 km/h average speed. Putting the two real, independently published standards side by side: Punjab Police's PST (14.8 km/h) demands roughly 23% more sustained running speed than the Army's PET (12 km/h) for essentially the same distance. That comparison doesn't appear on either force's own recruitment page, since each publishes only its own standard -- but it means a candidate assuming "police physical standards are easier than military ones" has the running component backwards.
4. The full pipeline, for context. The written computer-based test and the PST/PMT are sequential gates -- candidates who clear the written stage are then called for the physical tests (scheduled 15-31 October 2026 for this cycle), followed by document verification and, for those who clear every stage, police training before formal appointment.
