ECAT 2027: Why 1 Percentage Point of Your Score Equals Exactly 1 Question, and What That Means for a Weak FSc Percentage

ECAT's real 100-question, 4-marks-each format means every single percentage point of your ECAT score is exactly one MCQ -- a worked example shows precisely how many of those questions it takes to offset a weaker FSc percentage in UET's real merit formula.

ECAT -- the Combined Entrance Test UET Lahore administers for Punjab's public-sector engineering admissions -- gets covered on dozens of prep-site pages, but almost none of them connect the test's own scoring arithmetic to the merit formula that decides a seat. Two real, separately-published facts, combined, produce a number worth knowing before the test.

1. The real format makes the scoring arithmetic unusually clean. ECAT is 100 MCQs in 100 minutes, each worth 4 marks -- 400 raw marks total. Because 4 marks out of 400 is exactly 1%, every single ECAT question is worth exactly one percentage point of the final ECAT score. No rounding, no weighting quirks -- 1 question answered correctly moves the ECAT percentage by exactly 1 point, always.

2. The real merit formula weighs ECAT below FSc. UET Lahore's public-sector admission merit is Matriculation 17% + FSc (Intermediate) 50% + ECAT Score 33%. Unlike MDCAT's formula (where the entry test outweighs the coursework score), ECAT's weight (33%) sits below FSc's (50%) -- meaning a one-point swing in FSc moves the aggregate more than a one-point swing in ECAT.

3. Worked example: how many extra ECAT questions offset a weaker FSc score. Suppose a candidate's FSc percentage runs 5 points below their target cohort. That costs 5 x 0.50 = 2.5 aggregate points. Recovering those 2.5 points purely through ECAT requires raising the ECAT percentage by 2.5 / 0.33 ≈ 7.6 points. Since every ECAT percentage point is exactly one question (fact #1), that 7.6-point gap is just under 8 extra correct answers out of 100 -- a precise, concrete number that only exists because ECAT's own 4-marks-per-question format happens to make percentage points and question counts interchangeable. No single source states it, because the format page and the merit-formula page are never the same page.

4. How competitive is a UET Lahore seat specifically? UET Lahore and its sub-campuses offer roughly 3,045 fully and partially subsidized engineering seats, against an annual applicant pool reported at more than 45,000 for Punjab's public-sector engineering seats broadly (both approximate, per Maqsad's UET guide). Dividing those two approximate figures gives roughly 15 applicants per seat at UET Lahore specifically -- a ratio neither source states directly, since the applicant estimate and the seat count are published on separate pages. That's distinct from the real, precisely sourced 24,288 candidates who appeared for ECAT 2026's Phase-II alone (17-21 Jun 2026, across 10 centres) -- a same-cycle attendance figure, not an all-seats ratio, but a useful floor on how many candidates are actually sitting the test in a given cycle.
