PPSC One Paper: Which of the 7 Subjects Actually Carries Half the Marks, and How Competitive One Real Drive Really Was

PPSC's "One Paper" test spreads 100 marks across seven subjects, but grouped correctly, General Knowledge and Pakistan Affairs alone equal double Math and Urdu combined -- and one real October 2026 drive drew roughly 191 candidates per advertised post.

PPSC -- the Punjab Public Service Commission -- runs a single generic MCQ screening test, commonly called the "One Paper" test, across the great majority of its general-cadre, non-technical recruitment drives. Every prep-site syllabus page lists the same seven subjects, but none of them groups the real weightage into a priority order, and none connects it to how competitive an actual sitting was.

1. The real official weightage, and the ratio nobody states. PPSC's One Paper is 100 MCQs for 100 marks: General Knowledge 20, Pakistan Affairs 20, English 18, Islamic Studies 12, Everyday Science 10, Mathematics 10, Urdu 10. Grouped into tiers by marks, General Knowledge + Pakistan Affairs together carry 40 of the 100 marks -- and that 40-mark tier is worth exactly double Mathematics + Urdu combined (10 + 10 = 20). No syllabus page states this pairwise ratio, since every source lists the seven subjects as a flat list, not grouped -- but it's the single clearest prioritization signal in the entire paper: a candidate who only has time to master two subjects gets more marks from General Knowledge and Pakistan Affairs together than from Mathematics and Urdu combined, by a factor of two.

2. A second tier most candidates underweight. English (18) and Islamic Studies (12) together add another 30 marks. Combined with Tier 1, four of the seven subjects -- General Knowledge, Pakistan Affairs, English, Islamic Studies -- account for 70 of the 100 marks. The remaining three subjects (Everyday Science, Mathematics, Urdu) split the last 30 marks evenly, at 10 each. Structuring revision around that 70/30 split, rather than treating all seven subjects as equal, matches how the real paper actually allocates marks.

3. Marking policy: check your own advertisement. Most PPSC One Paper sittings carry no negative marking (correct answers score 1, wrong and blank both score 0), the same posture as MDCAT -- but PPSC does not publish one single marking rule across every drive, so the only reliable check is the specific advertisement for the post being applied to.

4. How competitive is one real sitting? PPSC's October 2026 written-test drive -- held 3-4 Oct 2026 across seven regional centres (Lahore, Multan, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Bahawalpur, DG Khan) -- drew 45,814 candidates for 240 posts across eight administrative departments. Dividing those two real, independently sourced figures gives roughly 191 candidates per advertised post (45,814 / 240 ≈ 190.9) -- a ratio that doesn't appear on the source page, which reports the candidate count and the post count separately but never divides one by the other. That single drive is one PPSC sitting, not a guarantee for every future advertisement, but it's a real, concrete sense of scale for what "general-cadre PPSC recruitment" actually means in practice.

Camino Prep's PPSC One Paper question bank is built question-for-question against this exact 20/20/18/12/10/10/10 weightage across all seven subjects, so practice-test section balance matches the real paper instead of a generic civil-service MCQ mix. Check the exam calendar for upcoming PPSC advertisement and test dates before locking in a study schedule.
